In the beginning was the river, and in its wake rode five horsemen.
One brought decay.
One brought silence.
One brought war.
One brought famine.
And at the end of days came the fifth: Tyranny, the beast on bloody wings, seeking to devour them all.from „The Seeress’s Prophecy“
Saifear is ancient, merciless, and steeped in secrets that wait in the shadows of forgotten ruins for those brave – or foolish – enough to seek them.
But how did it start? Well, when I was little, there were two main activities I did over and over again: reading books and daydreaming. Daydreaming really was the one consistent part of my childhood. It was a coping mechanism to begin with, for sure. Yet, over time, it became more. I envisioned monsters, dragons, and all kinds of creatures of the dark. I followed pathways into forests and mountain hideouts. I conquered whole landscapes and discovered ancient places. I saw a constant stream of visions – of characters heroic and miserable, witty and pathetic, pure and clumsy, benevolent and hideous – and their stories. I often felt with them, and the harsh and unforgiving reality I lived in – well, it didn’t matter for a time. When I became a parent, some of these stories started to come back. I began to explore the world I had created a long time ago, and I started to ask the very same question I used to ask myself back then: In a world defined by a highly globalized, technologically advanced, and ecologically fragile existence—plagued by power struggles and wars, bigotry, and crises of identity—how does one protect that which is innocent, and at what cost?
„The Chronicles of Saifear“ that emerged are a mirror through which I could cope with a world full of wonders and delight, and yet horrors and suffering.
